Women’s Issues in Islam?

It is a persistent question that everyone needs to know its answer: Does Islam wrong women?
The answer is here in this book:
Bent Rib: Journey through Women’s Issues in Islam
By Huda Khattab
Bent Rib examines a number of controversial issues such as:
– Domestic violence.
– Female genital mutilation.
– Failure to educate girls.
The book in general points out the divergence between Islamic teaching and actual culturally-influenced, practice.
The author, Huda Khattab, brings to focus that the problem is not Islam itself, but un-Islamic practices that are prevalent in many communities, a situation which has to be addressed.
Choosing the title “Bent Rib” brings to focus the dilemma of creating Eve (Hawwa) from Adam’s rib, which has turned into a deformity and reason for disdaining women in our Arab culture. That is why the author attempts in her work to remove the doubts and correct the misconceptions relating to this crooked understanding.
